Moving, and Moving Forward

By Cameron D. Jackson, Donor Relations Ladies and gentlemen, my back hurts. And I’m pretty happy about that. As you are no doubt aware, Hour of Power and Shepherd’s Grove are moving to a beautiful location in Irvine. The last couple of weeks have seen our first church services and recordings at our new home, which has been an absolutely monumental feat, to say the least. But we’re not done yet! We have staff, desks, filing cabinets, files (lots and lots of files), and a few dozen other odds and ends to move. Thus, my back hurts. As to the happy part? Well… The big words buzzing around my head during this move have been “good stewardship.” The search for this new location began as a desire to save. We’ve been leasing the property we’ve been using, and the price has gone up significantly. To be perfectly transparent, the running

How long have you been with the ministry? I started work here September of 1994 – so about 24 years. What do you do for Hour of Power? I am a Ministry Ambassador, which means I get to communicate with our donors on a daily basis. Inspiring work, I truly enjoy and love it. How did God bring you to the ministry? Long story but here goes… I was going through an extremely sad divorce. I was going to my 1st court hearing at Lamoreaux Justice Center in Orange County. I was horrified, sad, and broken-hearted. I felt this extreme need for God like I had never felt before! I needed guidance, comfort and strength. I remember feeling sick, nauseous and weak at the knees. It was my first time in the Garden Grove, so I wasn’t familiar with the area. I was driving around and got lost while looking

How long have you been with the ministry? Just over a year — and I have loved it! What do you do for Hour of Power? I do Hour of Power Communications. If we need writing, social media, photography, or blogging, I’m the gal! How did God bring you to the ministry? About a year and a half ago, I was working at Disneyland I needed a roommate fast. I ended up finding one on a kinda sketchy website, but she was awesome and a Christian. Soon after, she referred me to my current job. It definitely felt like a “God thing” for me to be placed in a house with her, and later at Shepherd’s Grove! I never thought I would be working in ministry, but now looking back, I can see it was all part of His beautiful plan! What is your favorite part about working here? I

It’s Official – We’re Moving to Irvine!

We are so incredibly blessed and excited for this opportunity to join forces with Irvine Presbyterian Church and to further advance God’s Kingdom, from Irvine! Beginning on Palm Sunday, Shepherd’s Grove will be worshiping in Irvine and will be moving offices shortly after. We are trusting God during this process and can see Him working to open doors, make connections, and to make this entire move possible. We are certain that God is going to do big things in the lives of this church family, the people in the fifteen feet of space around us, and beyond!   We are so thankful for your prayers and support. God is using YOU to help us reach millions with God’s message of love and dignity. Without you, this would not be possible. You are truly propelling this ministry forward as we continue to do Kingdom work. We would like to invite you

How long have you been with the ministry? Five years this summer What do you do for Shepherd’s Grove? I am the Pastor of Modern Worship How did God bring you to the ministry? I first came to work with Bobby Schuller, when I was hired at Tree of Life about a year before Tree of Life merged with Shepherd’s Grove. The funny thing is, I originally met the team when they reached out to me to see if I could help find them a worship pastor. After attending the church and falling in love with the community and vision of the church, my wife and I decided that maybe I could be that person to step into the role of Worship Pastor at Tree of Life. The rest is history. What is your favorite part about working here? My favorite part about working for Shepherd’s Grove is having the

Interview Guest: Nick Vujicic

We were honored to have Hour of Power favorite, Nick Vujicic, back at Shepherd’s Grove! He was interviewed by Hannah and then delivered an encouraging message to our church family. We are always honored to have him! Tune in to Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller this weekend to see Nick! Nick Vujicic is a Serbian-Australian motivational speaker and evangelist who was born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder characterized by the lack of all four limbs. One of only seven others across the planet to live with this disease, Nick has vehemently pursued his goal of spreading the Gospel to every person on Earth. Life wasn’t easy for Nick in his early years, despite his positive outlook. While contending with the typical challenges of adolescence, Nick fought depression and loneliness, often wondering why God had chosen him to be different. Despite being bullied, Nick began to thrive in his

Growing Together: A Visual History, and What’s to Come

In 1955, Garden Grove Community Church held its first service at the Orange Drive-in Theater. In 1961, Garden Grove Community Church held a first of its kind service in a new location — a walk in / drive sanctuary in Garden Grove (now known as Crystal Cathedral’s Arboretum). In 1970, Hour of Power was born with Dr. Robert Schuller’s mission to reach millions who couldn’t attend church. Arvella Schuller served as the program’s executive producer. In 1975, the Arboretum was overflowing with church congregants, so Dr. Schuller begins to execute his dream of building a new sanctuary on the property. In 1979, after overcoming many contracting challenges, the Crystal Cathedral held its ground-breaking ceremony. In 1990, Bobby Schuller made his first appearance on Hour of Power, singing “I Never Touched a Rainbow” as a 10-year-old. In 2000, Bobby Schuller is interviewed on Hour of Power for the first time by his

About the Music: “Let There Be Peace on Earth”

We are so blessed by our Voices of Hope Children’s Choir! Here they are performing their rendition of “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” accompanied by the Hour of Power Choir and Orchestra. This beautiful anthem was developed in 1955, with the words written by Jill Jackson and the melody by her husband, Sy Miller. Jill, after having experienced a sharp dip in her depression which led to her attempted — and failed — suicide, her heart then opened wide and willing to God’s unconditional love. She discovered from that moment on that she has a purpose, and her life and talent for music were valuable. A decade later, Sy and Jill went to a California retreat in the mountains where they met an array of young people with various socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. This week-long retreat was dedicated to exploring friendship through education and conversation. Introducing their song

ROCK4CHOC: Hour of Power in the Community

Here at Shepherd’s Grove / Hour of Power, we strive to be active and compassionate members of our local community. We have been given the opportunity to donate our facilities for an evening, this upcoming Thursday, for ROCK4CHOC, a concert to benefit Children’s Hospital of Orange County. The concert will feature Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies, who you might remember performed here on Bluegrass Sunday. As many of you know, our very own Cohen Schuller has been treated at CHOC, which is just one reason why this is a wonderful chance to get involved in the community around us. This concert correlates with CHOC Walk in the Park, which takes place later this month. Team DAPs Magic, which consists of numerous Shepherd’s Grove and Hour of Power staff members and attendees, has organized this event exclusively with CHOC. Preceding the concert, there will be light refreshments, a silent auction, and
