Justice Begins in the Heart

“The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death.” – Matthew 26:59 The Sanhedrin was a Jewish high court made up of rabbis who were responsible for carrying out tribunals that would enforce the law of the Lord. They operated with the permission of the Roman government and were mostly Sadducees, a group of Hebrew scholars who were generally friendly toward local governing authorities. Ironically, though they were appointed to uphold the law, they broke it in multiple ways in the case of crucifying Jesus. There were three rules they were always supposed to follow: no meeting at night, meet in the temple, and never meet during a festival.
