Create A Biblical Mind

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” – Romans 15:4 I encouraged you yesterday to ask the Holy Spirit each day to speak to you through the Word of God, and in doing so, you will develop the spiritual muscles to listen to what He has to say. To develop these muscles you have to do the work. Here’s what the work is: Memorizing scripture. You can begin memorizing scripture and saying them out loud at home. I tell people a great one to begin with is Psalm 23, or The Lord’s Prayer, as found in Matthew Chapter 6. You can say the scriptures out loud while you’re waiting for the bus, having coffee, or at the DMV. You will see that the scriptures will start

The Greatest Treasure

“At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, ‘Ask for whatever you want me to give you.’ ” – 1 Kings 3:5 Yesterday, we looked at how King Solomon sought the Lord first when he was faced with overwhelming challenges and obstacles. Today, I want to look at God’s response.  It’s interesting that Solomon gave 1,000 choice offerings to the Lord at Gibeon and then went back to his tent. The Bible doesn’t tell us what else happened at that special place or if anything transpired in between, but one thing is certain — the King’s reverence got the Lord’s attention. In the middle of the night, God appeared to the novice ruler in a dream and offered to give him whatever he wanted. I don’t know about you, but if the Almighty asked me this question, I can think of a

Do You Know Him?

“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. But the more they were called, the more they went away from me. They sacrificed to the Baals and they burned incense to images. It was I who taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by the arms; but they did not realize it was I who healed them.” – Hosea 11:1-3 God desires us to know Him intimately. In my recent Bible study of the poetic book Hosea, the question came to me, “Do you know God?” Hosea begins like this: He marries, and almost instantly his marriage goes wrong. His wife cheats on him, and God tells him to pursue his wife and win her back. This unfortunately became a cycle of life for him. It’s a heartbreaking story of a man who wants nothing more than to save his family. As the

Wisdom is Weightier than Gold

“How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!” – Proverbs 16:16 Let me ask you a question: Would you rather have a million dollars or the wisdom to make a million dollars? How you answer that says a lot about your priorities. However, don’t feel bad if you chose the money — who wouldn’t want resources like that just thrown in their lap? Though it’s always tempting to go the route of instant gratification or a quick-fix, living in the Kingdom of God means that you don’t have to. You already have all that you need! We talked yesterday about the fact that you have many callings and that everything you do in life has a purpose that builds upon the one before. Today, I want to encourage you with the thought that all of your jobs, positions, and vocational appointments work together to
