Lay Down Your Sword

“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.” – Matthew 26:52 Many of us have fought the good fight, but we stay in fight mode when we don’t need to. We’re  tough people, and we’re so used to gripping the sword that when the sword needs to be laid down, it feels unnatural. It hurts to let go. It doesn’t feel like this is the way my hand’s supposed to be, and yet it is. And so much of becoming a disciple of Christ is moving from living life with clenched teeth and fists, anger, judgment, and justice. Instead, we learn to let go and become the kind of person that doesn’t need to fight anymore, that can receive life of the open hand. You can receive, bless, embrace — that’s where God wants to get
