“ ‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’ .” – Luke 10:41,42 Have you ever felt distracted, worried, or frustrated? Most of us have. Life can easily become crowded with tasks, demands, and noise, making it hard to notice the moments that matter—with God and with others. Like Martha, we often get caught up in doing, working, and serving, forgetting to simply be present. Martha worked hard to serve Jesus and His disciples, but her sister Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet, listening and learning from Him. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’ ” – Luke 10:41, 429 Have you ever felt distracted, overwhelmed, or simply worn thin? If you’re like me, the answer is a resounding yes. Life has a way of becoming so full, so loud, and so cluttered that we miss the moments that matter most — meaningful moments with God and the people we love. Much like Martha, we get consumed by work, service, and every manner of doing, rather than simply being. While Martha was a devoted hostess who served Jesus and His disciples with care, her striving stood in stark contrast to her sister Mary, who chose to sit quietly at the Lord’s feet — listening, learning, and simply being present.

If you’re like me, your answer to this question is a resounding “yes.” The truth is that at times, life is so full, so busy, and so cluttered that we become distracted by everything that’s going on around us and miss meaningful moments with God and others. Much like Martha, we are consumed by work, service, and every manner of doing rather than simply being.
