Be Faithful in Your Calling

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ ” – Matthew 25:21 Today, as we continue to uncover what your calling is, it’s not uncommon to have two or more callings at the same time! It is understood that God will give us multiple missions. Does your boss ever give you two assignments at the same time? Most likely, yes. In life, it’s important that we understand which of the two or three things is most important to God. Right now, I have at least two callings. I’m called to be the pastor of this ministry and I’m also called to be a husband and a dad. Which one is more important? Family is the number one priority, but at times we get this confused. It’s

An Ambassador for Him

“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” – Matthew 10:16 If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my life, it’s that Jesus is a good Father. He prepares us by training and equipping us so that we are never unprepared for life’s fights and problems. In Matthew 10, for example, Jesus commissions his disciples to carry on the work of His Kingdom in the same way that He has modeled it to them. He gives them the power to banish demons and heal the ill, but He also warns them. He warns them that they will be like sheep among wolves when they venture out. I don’t know about you, but that wouldn’t make me feel very safe, and it certainly wouldn’t get me enthused about the travel. The caution, on the other hand, comes with a

Culture is Key

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2 God cares more about changing us than He does about changing our circumstances. I learned this early in life when I went on missionary trips. I traveled to a number of remote places around the world as a young man, and while I always set out on these journeys with a goal or a project in mind, I quickly learned that they were just as much about transforming my heart as they were about helping others. It’s not that our mission didn’t involve doing good stuff for people, but I always came home different than I was when I left. Because most of my trips were arranged by organizations that had years of experience, they knew that it was equally as important to build into those who were ministering as it was

Perfectly Prepared

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28 To wrap up our discussion about David and Goliath, I want to share a final thought with you. If you’re feeling alone and frightened in this strange season, it’s important to remember that the man after God’s heart began his life in obscurity. Yes, he had a large family, but he was often by himself, looking after his sheep. Though it afforded him quiet times to be with the Lord and fortified his soul for the things he would face later, there must have been moments when he was lonely and afraid. As he was approached by a ferocious lion and a hungry bear and required to slay them by himself, I’m certain he questioned his lot in life. While he felt

Interview Guest: Sean Kappauf

We are thrilled to have Sean Kappauf as our guest on the show this weekend! Sean is a teaching pastor at Capo Beach Church in Dana Point, California. His servant’s heart has found him serving locally and globally for a majority of his life. In 2013, he found a new mission after a humanitarian trip to a small village in El Salvador: to provide fresh water filters to the men, women, and children suffering from a lack of clean drinking water. He has a passion for helping suffering children who cannot help themselves, which inspired him to do more. Since then, Sean founded One ATTA Time, a nonprofit organization that provides filters capable of purifying 500 gallons of water a day to communities in El Salvador, Vietnam, Uganda, and the areas of Texas and Puerto Rico affected by hurricanes. Through One ATTA Time, they aim to: Advocate, Teach, Transform,

Mission Monday: Myanmar

At Hour of Power, we strive to spread the message of love and dignity all across the globe in any way we can. Our very own Jonathan Thonglom recently returned from his heart-opening experience in Myanmar, where he traveled during Christmas with his mission group to warm the hearts of children in orphanages and young adults in school. Because the nation is predominantly Buddhist, Christians may only worship in public during the Christmas season. What a wonderful chance to take advantage of this blessing! Jonathan’s first stop on his journey was in Yangon, which is where Love Children’s Home, the orphanage, is located. LCH was started by Pastor Peter, who runs a total of 12 orphanages throughout the nation of Myanmar. Jonathan and a team of 17 other volunteers participated in Christmas activities with the children and learned from one another by sharing the gift of God’s love. LCH has

Hour of Power CARES – A New Initiative

In the decades since Dr. Robert H. Schuller began sharing  Hour of Power with the world, we have seen some pretty incredible things. Lives have been transformed by the healing power of God’s message of love and dignity! We have continued in that proud tradition, and our positive thinking has led us to this next wonderful, inspired effort: Hour of Power Cares. As Bobby Schuller now so often says, we are called to affect the “fifteen feet of space around us,” positively impacting the lives of those we encounter. As an international ministry, reaching millions every week, our proverbial “fifteen feet” stretches to all corners of the globe! With Hour of Power Cares, we look to provide love and dignity by supplying for needs, both spiritual and practical, in our own backyard of Orange County, CA, and across many nations and peoples. Of course, we have many efforts already underway,
