Missions Minute: Mike Sunker and the 5C’s

“Bring the little children to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.” -Matthew 19:14 Recently at Shepherd’s Grove and Irvine Presbyterian Church, we were honored to welcome Rev. Mike Sunker to share about his ministry! He is the founder and director of Christ Church Christian Care Center (5Cs) in Johannesburg, South Africa. 5Cs currently houses, clothes, feeds, and educates over 70 children. 5Cs is an oasis in Johannesburg’s Hillbrow district, an impoverished area with vast numbers of homeless children, high crime, and rampant HIV/AIDS infection. The objectives of the 5C’s ministry are:  Rescue homeless and vulnerable children from the cycle of poverty.  Restore their self-worth and dignity.  Provide a safe environment where they can pursue their dreams and aspirations.  Encourage a relationship with Christ through the Gospel.  Although the 5Cs is caring for 70 needy children, they don’t have space and resources to accommodate more children from the community. Hour of Power Cares About Kenya

By Megan Ewbank  Over the past few months, Our Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller team has been meeting, planning, and dreaming as we were seeking God’s call on how to further reach people … not only on the air but on the ground, as well! We are calling this initiative Hour of Power Cares, and we’re really excited about it. We are working to aid and encourage our own community in Orange County, but since we’re a global ministry as well, we wanted to do something on a global scale. And through much divine connection, we felt strongly that God was leading us to Kenya.  With a little trepidation and a lot of joy,  a member of our awesome staff,  Amber, and myself, embarked on a long journey to Africa.
