A Worthwhile Question to Ask

“Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.” – Luke 17:4 Today, let’s acknowledge that the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ has made you into a new creation. You are forgiven, redeemed, and most of all, you are loved. How many times will God forgive you? That’s a worthwhile question to ask. God will forgive you the same amount that He asks you to forgive your neighbor, which is limitless. Does this seem reckless and unfair? The answer is absolutely — it’s literally a hack or a “cheat code” for your spiritual life. We can always lean on the cross which wipes away our past and gives us a fresh start.  We don’t intend to sin or hurt others, it just happens. Each of us desires to be better at the

Bumped and Bruised

“When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, ‘This is the king of Israel.’ So they turned to attack him, but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the Lord helped him. God drew them away from him.” – 2 Chronicles 18:31 Yesterday, we learned that Jehoshaphat, the King of Judah, and Ahab, the King of Israel, banded together to attack the country of Ramoth-Gilead, despite knowing that it was dangerous. Because Ahab was full of pride, he refused to heed the words of the prophet Micaiah, who foretold that he would lose his life in the war. When the moment of conflict came, he dressed Jehoshaphat in his clothes to detract attention from himself, and his “friend” nearly died at the hands of the enemy. However, in the heat of the battle, Jehoshaphat cried desperately to the Lord, and he was saved. Because he took a humble stance, God had mercy on

Righteousness is Greater Than Regret

“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:13,14 Yesterday, we looked at how Paul considered all of his worldly accomplishments garbage compared to the gift of having Jesus as His Savior. Knowing that, I’m almost certain that his impassioned letter to the church at Philippi was, in part, a response to a past that he wasn’t proud of. Though his previous transgressions were repugnant to him, his encouragement to fellow believers was to forget what was behind, strain toward what was ahead, and press on. You see, while it sounds crude, Paul understood that the only way to escape the stench of trash was to move farther away from it, and this remains true in our lives today. No matter

Mistakes

“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.” – 1 Corinthians 15:10 We apply our attitude about not being good enough for church to our relationship with God, as well. When we’re feeling holy and we feel like we’ve had a lot of good behavior, we approach God’s throne boldly, but when we mess up, we just think: Well I must not be a Christian because I mess up. You know that’s the thing. If you think anybody is super holy, you just don’t know them well enough; you just have to get to know people better. You’ll feel much better about yourself. You really will. We all mess up, but we are still God’s beloved. Prayer God, help me
