Nothing is Impossible

Nothing is Impossible

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’ ” – Matthew 19:26 Nothing is impossible with God! I remember a story about the famous mathematician George Dantzig when he was in college. One particular day, he was running late to class. When he finally got to his seat, he noticed a math problem on the board, so he hurriedly copied it, assuming it was the homework for next week’s class. When he attempted to solve it later that night, he realized it was very difficult — much more than the typical assignment.  Although it took him some time, George didn’t give up, and he finally figured out the answer. Proud of his achievement, he went to his professor’s office and set the solution on his desk. Several weeks went by until early one morning, the young man heard a knock

Cut Down But Never Destroyed

“The command to leave the stump of the tree with its roots means that your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge that Heaven rules.” – Daniel 4:26 I asked you to read Isaiah 11 a few days ago, and you may recall that in that section, Jesus was referred to as a shoot that grew from the stump of Jesse. Several times in the Bible, the word “stump” is used to indicate anything that is dead but will be restored, such as God’s people and the arrival of their Messiah. Because a stump retains its roots, it is always capable of regrowth and rebirth; but, it must remain planted! Perhaps you believe you’re a stump and that you’ve been hacked down. You perceive your life as a useless form sticking out of the earth for others to stumble over as a shadow of your previous self. However,

Humility Is Not Shame

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” – Proverbs 11:2 As Christians, we often link humility and shame together. Saying bad things about yourself is not humility, it’s shame. Hiding is not a sign of humility, it’s shame. A humble person is a vulnerable person. They’re willing to allow their close friends and family to see their imperfections, their struggles, their sins, their worries, their anxieties. While vulnerability might feel like weakness, it’s actually strength. It’s bold, it’s strong, and it’s courageous. The truly humble person is the strong person — they don’t find a need to constantly defend themselves, to always bite back, get angry, and yelp like a little dog. They have the quiet dignity of a Great Dane. Prayer Give me humility, Lord. I want to be bold, strong, and courageous. Reflection How do you feel when you are humble?

Nothing is Impossible

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 1:6 Today I want to encourage you to see a bigger existence for your life. You can have a better future because when you’re following Jesus, literally nothing is impossible. Daydream, wonder, and let go of the rules that you apply so strictly to your life. Begin to wonder, by faith, about what God can do in your life. I believe that the day that you decide that you have no purpose is the day you die. You are alive, you have a purpose, and you have a calling, but it requires faith. Have the faith to walk fearlessly on the surface of hell with Jesus. And you will, and you’re going to be great. Prayer Dear God, give me the strength to dream. You
