The Gift in Sacrifice

“As he approached Lehi, the Philistines came toward him shouting. The Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon him. The ropes on his arms became like charred flax, and the bindings dropped from his hands. Finding a fresh jawbone of a donkey, he grabbed it and struck down a thousand men.” – Judges 15:14,15 Samson was set apart by God to deliver his people from the evil Philistines, and in return for abstaining from touching anything deceased, drinking no wine, and not cutting his hair, he was endowed with incredible supernatural strength that enabled him to knock down buildings, tear apart gates of iron, and kill 1,000 men with the jawbone of a donkey. This made the Philistines rightfully afraid of him, and it caused them to think twice before coming after God’s people. Strangely, in spite of his superhuman abilities, Samson was constantly tempted to break his Nazarite vow

Peace

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” – Luke 2:14 Christmas day is here and my heart’s prayer for you above all is peace. I don’t mean peace as in a lack of noise or activity because there may be a lot going on around you. I mean shalom — a deep and abiding sense of well-being — the kind that provides rest in the midst of chaos. I think Christmas is the perfect time to stop, breath deeply, and slow down. In fact, if you have a chance, spend a moment beholding the wonder of a world that has finally taken a break. Unlike any other day, malls and grocery stores have closed their doors and motion and movement are minimal. There’s something sacred about this stillness, and I pray it reminds you of the One who brings

About the Music: “Let There Be Peace on Earth”

We are so blessed by our Voices of Hope Children’s Choir! Here they are performing their rendition of “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” accompanied by the Hour of Power Choir and Orchestra. This beautiful anthem was developed in 1955, with the words written by Jill Jackson and the melody by her husband, Sy Miller. Jill, after having experienced a sharp dip in her depression which led to her attempted — and failed — suicide, her heart then opened wide and willing to God’s unconditional love. She discovered from that moment on that she has a purpose, and her life and talent for music were valuable. A decade later, Sy and Jill went to a California retreat in the mountains where they met an array of young people with various socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. This week-long retreat was dedicated to exploring friendship through education and conversation. Introducing their song

Peace, Right Now

“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” – Romans 6:8 You don’t need money to have peace of mind. You don’t need financial freedom and you don’t need a vacation — you can have serenity of mind, right now. Right now. Right in your bones. You can get to the place that no matter where you go, you have this thing inside of you that cannot be shaken. With peace of mind, tranquility, and safety, you can let go of reputation management. I am convinced that in our modern world, reputation management is the number one thing disrupting people’s peace of mind, tranquility, and serenity. Reputation management destroys our peace of mind — it’s not worth it. Amen? Look, first of all, every preacher is preaching to a mirror. This is a message for Bobby Schuller, okay? I
