Permission to Be Strong

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9 It’s interesting to me that the Lord told Joshua to be strong and courageous four times in the first chapter of the book bearing his name. Because he was one of two of a dozen spies who came back from the Promised Land with a positive report, this man of faith was ultimately appointed as a successor to Moses. That said, he strikes me as someone who already had strength and courage, so it seems a bit strange that God gave him this kind of directive.
