Petitioning with Passion

“Some time later the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. He grew worse and worse, and finally stopped breathing. She said to Elijah, ‘What do you have against me, man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sin and kill my son?’” – 1 Kings 17:17,18 I can’t imagine how the widow must have felt when, after the Lord provided food and she graciously let Elijah move into her home, her son suddenly became ill and passed away. Though he had been saved from starving and was finally getting some meat on his bones, the sickness that came upon him took him quickly. When he died, her attention went immediately to Elijah, whom she questioned with bewilderment. After seeing God provide the first time, why would He take away her precious child now? Hadn’t she done everything that had been asked of her?
