Prince of Peace

Re-setting Our Hearts

“On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves,” – Mark 11:15 Did you know that Jesus was not just the Messiah, but also called to be the Prince of Peace and the King of our lives? With this role of King comes authority to set things right in your life and in my life. Mark Chapter eleven speaks of Jesus entering the temple courts in Jerusalem. He sees the money lenders and knocks over their tables and drives them out. So, why all the commotion surrounding the money lenders? During Passover, many Jews would come from all over to celebrate, but were only allowed to take kosher money into the temple. They had to exchange their currency for shekels that didn’t have any pagan

Prince of Peace

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.” – Isaiah 9:6,7 Since the holidays are still fresh in our minds, I want to share a thought with you based on Isaiah 9, the famous chapter that lists all the titles that the future Messiah will be known by. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33 We’re down to the last two days of 2020, and while there are a few clear hallmarks of this year, I would say that fear has been an ongoing theme. This unfortunate fact has arisen out of many different circumstances — a pandemic, an unknown virus, and political unrest to name a few — but it’s been heightened and intensified by a constant stream of negative messages. Never in the history of our world have we been inundated with information like we are today, and while having instant access to the most up-to-date headlines can be a blessing, it also has some major drawbacks. A barrage of bad news preys upon the fear that inherently lurks in human

The Immovable Word

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” – John 1:1,2 Well, it’s December of 2020, and we’re preparing to welcome Christmas once again. That said, there’s no doubt that this year looks different. As we continue navigating the ever-changing currents of the COVID-19 situation, flexibility and sacrifice seem to be essentials for survival. While we embrace the holiday season with the knowledge that our country — and our planet — is in a state of uncertainty, we can apply our hearts with greater understanding to the story of Jesus’ birth. You see, on the night He came, Mary and Joseph’s world looked dark. They were in a strange city, she was dealing with the pain of labor, and they couldn’t find a quiet place for her to rest and give birth. I imagine
