God Surpassed My Hopes

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19 Today I want to share a true miracle I experienced when I was about nine years old. As a child, I hoped in God until God surpassed my hopes! Back then, my Dad and I would go fishing often. In Southern California, if you’ve ever been out deep-sea fishing, you know there’s this space between Catalina Island and the coast where you can’t see land anywhere. As a youngster, your imagination elevates this experience even more.  One afternoon when my Dad and I were fishing, we hadn’t eaten anything all day and we forgot to bring food. All we had was water, and I remember my Dad commenting, “I hope we catch some fish.” He also said, “Let’s pray for food,” as we both felt a need for God’s

Just Go!

“…and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He told them: ‘Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.’ ” – Luke 9:2,3 Today I want to emphasize that God has amazing provision for you and I. That’s why Jesus tells His disciples in Luke Chapters 9 and 10: “Just go and don’t take anything with you.” And at the end, He says, “Were you ever in need?” And they said, “Never Lord, never.” As we live by faith, we can do bold things for God! Hannah and I have a strong testimony of God’s provision. Some time ago, we saved $50,000 for our retirement over a span of 10 years. It was more money than we ever thought we could save. God called us to plant a church, and we did. When we established

His Eye is On You

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” – Psalm 139:7-10 Yesterday, I shared one of my most memorable Rancho Capistrano stories, and today, I’m reminded of another one. On a different Friday, when I was at the ranch praying and communing with Jesus, Pastor Russ Jacobson needed to reach me. However, as is often the case when I’m seeking solitude, my phone was off. Since he couldn’t text me or call me, he used a feature that Apple offers called “Find My Friends,” which enabled him to see my

Nothing Outwits Divine Favor

“‘Don’t give me anything,’ Jacob replied. ‘But if you will do this one thing for me, I will go on tending your flocks and watching over them: Let me go through all your flocks today and remove from them every speckled or spotted sheep, every dark-colored lamb and every spotted or speckled goat. They will be my wages.’” – Genesis 30:31,32 Today, I want to look again at the story of Jacob and Laban as we continue to examine the power of the Lord’s favor in our lives. Since his father-in-law begged him to stay rather than returning to Israel, Jacob agreed to go on tending Laban’s flocks, but he told him that he needed to earn a wage. Laban was agreeable to this, and He invited the young man to name his price. Rather than make it complicated, Jacob simply asked to be given every sheep or goat that
