Purpose

A Divine Obesession

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” – Romans 8:37 Research shows that you don’t get good at what you enjoy, you enjoy what you get good at. When you get really good at something, you enjoy it to the point of passion, and if you employ discipline and become a master of your craft, you may just come to a place of obsession. Now, in our culture, obsession has a negative connotation because we often think of it as a mental illness, and it can be when taken too far, but in a positive sense, when divinely inspired, being obsessed is the ultimate form of pursuit and passion. I invite you to become obsessed with the Lord and with what He’s doing in your life. Get so enamored with His plan for you that you aren’t afraid to be stretched and

You Are Chosen

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other.” – John 15:16,17 Today I want to share a very hopeful message: “Be assured that God has chosen you.” Your calling is not only for salvation, but for a great purpose in this special time on earth. For us humans, there’s an inherent need and deep desire in us to be chosen. One of my most significant beliefs is that if we live in the blessing of being chosen and trust in God’s will, life will be so much better.  At times we may rightfully feel left out. Remember those games on the playground where the team captains had to choose people for their team? Their assignment

Your Great Calling

“With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.” – 2 Thessalonians 1:11 Today, as we continue examining what your calling is, I want you to know that not only do you have a great calling, but you also have many callings. We’re not born to have one grand final calling. All of us are called to do many things, and all of those things are meaningful and have value. If they’re from God, they’re going to unfold into the next mission and the pursuit after that.  Finding your calling is a bit like eating a cinnamon roll, which is one of my favorite desserts! The best part of the cinnamon roll is the core. That’s the crown

What is Your Calling?

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45 Today I want to answer the question that so many people ask: What is my calling? In this series, we will unfold many aspects concerning this important topic. It’s a question you may continually ask, especially when you feel like you’re in a rut, in a middle or gray area, or maybe you just lost your job. Or, perhaps you’ve been at your job for a long time and you used to love it, but now you no longer enjoy it. It still pays well, but you’re unsatisfied and maybe you’re ready to do something else. You pray, “God, I’m thankful for this assignment, but was I born to do this? What is my true calling?” The heart of this question signifies

Called to Be a Blessing to Others

“For I know your eagerness to help, and I have been boasting about it to the Macedonians, telling them that since last year you in Achaia were ready to give; and your enthusiasm has stirred most of them to action.” – 2 Corinthians 9:2 Today I want to share a lesson from the city of Caesarea Philippi, which is shared in the gospels of Matthew and Mark. Jesus was trying to teach His disciples that as believers, we are called for a purpose, and we’re called to be a blessing to others. When Hannah and I visited the Dead Sea, I remember reading a comparison between the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. The Sea of Galilee is fresh and full of life, and that’s because the water flows in and the water flows out. It’s a symbol of the soul, which receives teaching; we also receive gifts from

Perspective is Everything

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” – Luke 6:45 There once was a man walking down the street and he happened upon a construction site. As he approached, he asked a gentleman with a rather glum countenance who was working on the project, “What are you doing here?” The man responded, “I’m building a wall. I’m a bricklayer.” From there, he proceeded down the sidewalk and crossed paths with another bricklayer working on the same site, only this one looked a little happier. Again, he asked the man, “Sir, what are you doing?” This time he responded, “I’m building a church, isn’t that lovely?” Finally, he encountered a third worker, also laying bricks and cement,

You Have Many Callings!

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” – John 15:16 Did you know that you have many callings? A lot of us go through life with the mistaken idea that there’s just one major thing we’re supposed to do, but this is not the case. Most of us have many callings and each one prepares us for the next. For example, we looked at the story of Joseph, and for the last couple of days, the life and trials of Jesus. I really don’t believe we would have seen Joseph leading the nation of Egypt without his experience at Potiphar’s house. Nor do I believe that Jesus could have so completely redeemed our suffering without choosing to first suffer with us

Heavenly Assignments

“In his defense Jesus said to them, ‘My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.’” – John 5:17 As we talked about yesterday, non-work is not ideal, but our culture is bent towards thinking that leisure is King. We have come to believe that Heaven is a place where we sit around eternally and eat from a buffet, float on clouds, and fly. However, the truth is that there will be work for us to do there, too, but it will be the best kind of work. In the next life, we will have meaningful, life-giving assignments, the type that we were meant to experience before the fall. In short, it will be avodah. There are probably many of us who think seriously about the afterlife and at one time or another feared that it might be boring. The good news is

You Are Made to Work!

“God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’” – Genesis 1:28 We talked a few days ago about how the norm in our society seems to be to worship the idea of doing nothing. We are always rushing to get through the next project or the next day of work, or the next class so we can reach a place of simply being idle. However, the truth is that we were made to do things and when we do, we find our greatest satisfaction!  Did you know that part of the blessing of the Garden of Eden was the work that God gave Adam and Eve to do?  As opposed to being drudgery, they were designed

We Have Many Purposes

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” – 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV) Here is a phrase that I believe you can never hear enough — you were created with a purpose! In fact, you were created with many purposes. Time and time again, I have seen people frustrated and robbed of joy because they feel like they haven’t found their one true purpose in life. However, I want to affirm to you today that you don’t have a singular calling, you have many different callings, and each one is important in a different season. In fact, you were designed to go from purpose to purpose, or as the Bible says, from glory to glory. There is no “perfect” end; each one of
