New Doors

By Russ Jacobson, Chief Operating Officer of Hour of Power  I meet my dear friend Charles for lunch every month.  Just last month Charles and I were talking about doors.  I am not sure how we got on the subject, but we starting rattling off Bible passages about doors.  There are lots of them!  Here are just two examples: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7) “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”  (Revelation 3:20) Charles told me that he had never looked for a job his whole life.  He just waited for God to open doors and walked through them.  The next time we met for lunch, Charles had

Stroopwafels and Donuts

Art by Sinae McKillips, Hour of Power USA  Story by Chris Tims, Managing Director, Hour of Power Netherlands The relationship between Hour of Power Netherlands and Hour of Power USA has always been a special one. It all started with Dr. Robert H. Schuller, whose roots were actually in the Netherlands. Obviously, we, as Dutch people, always love to refer to this part. And this relationship continues to bear its fruits today. This past Christmas, we organized two sold-out concerts in a big historical church. It was a wonderful event with great music. Bobby shared a powerful video message with the Dutch audience about living a joyful life. Also, Haven told us that she loves Holland! She envisioned herself ice-skating, eating stroopwafels (traditional Dutch syrup waffles). Don Neuen led a Dutch choir of 140 singers and said greeted our audience. When his good friend Jan van den Bosch interviewed

Staff Spotlight: Carolien Wakker

By Carolien Wakker, Hour of Power Intern  “Welcome to the Hour of Power Family!” That’s one of the things I remember hearing first when I got here. I didn’t know what that would mean back then, but I know now. And it has been an amazing experience. Hi, I’m Carolien! For the last two and a half months, I have been interning at Hour of Power. I helped with a number of communications activities (writing, social media, etc.) and events. I also had the opportunity to get to know other fields of operations, by meeting people from different departments and participating in meetings throughout the organization. Back in The Netherlands, where I’m from, I have been working in the field of communications and events for a few years. For quite some time, I felt a strong desire to go to Hour of Power and be a part of this television ministry and

Festive “Feliz Navidad” Staff Breakfast

Each year, a few weeks before Christmas, the Hour of Power and Shepherd’s Grove staff gathers for a special staff Christmas celebration. This year we celebrated the holidays with a “Feliz Navidad” themed breakfast party! Our creative committee crafted beautiful Mexican decorations, and came up with some fun games like “Pin the mustache on the pastor,” “Mexican Loteria,” and “Draw a Christmas tree.” Colleagues could also make some great pictures together in the handcrafted photo booth. We had a great time together, and we love to share some photo’s with you!

Our Staff Gets Festive This Christmas … With Their Doors!

During this Christmas season at Hour of Power and Shepherd’s Grove, we enjoy celebrating as a staff. In addition to our staff Christmas party, we had some friendly competition between offices to get into the spirit. Our different departments participated in our door decorating contest by decorating either one or both of the doors to their offices! We had some very creative doors that we want to share with you! Jim Dawson was our special guest judge for the occasion, and he decided that it was a tie for the winner.  Our HR/Payroll and Communications offices both won, and will enjoy a pizza party with Bobby! We hope your Christmas season is as much fun as we have here on our campus! If you’re at Shepherd’s Grove this Christmas, swing by to check out the doors!

The Stars Were Brightly Shining: ‘O Holy Night’ a Christmas Success!

Last Friday, we kicked off the holiday season with our annual “O Holy Night” concert at Shepherd’s Grove! It was an amazing night of inspiring music, powerful scripture, and joyous celebration. The highlights include: The Hour of Power Choir, conducted by Dr. Irene Messoloras, kicked off the concert by cheerfully singing “Joy to the World.” Later, they performed “Angels We Have Heard on High.” Pastor Bobby, Hannah, Haven, and Cohen Schuller lit the advent candles and explained what the Advent season means for us. We also got to witness a very cute moment of Cohen expressing his love for chicken nuggets! The Voices of Hope Children’s Choir, conducted by Sarah Grandpre, sweetly performed “Somewhere in My Memory” and “Do You Hear What I Hear.” Opera Singers (and real-life married couple) Courtney Taylor and Todd Strange powerfully sang “Love Came Down” together. Staff Spotlight: Christine Trummel

We are so lucky to have Christine Trummel as a part of our Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller staff. You may know her from the friendly voice that answers the phone, or the smiling face that greets you at the bookstore at Shepherd’s Grove on Sundays. But you may not know is … she has a powerful story.   Christine grew up in New Jersey as a pastor’s kid but turned away from her faith after losing her dad in her twenties. She was mad at God and felt an emptiness in her soul. So she began to fill it with just about anything she could … besides Jesus. After many years of struggling with this feeling, Christine and her husband wandered into the Crystal Cathedral on a Sunday morning. With little knowledge about the church’s history, Christine was surprised to find a young man in the pulpit.
