“But Jesus immediately said to them: ‘Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.’” – Matthew 14:27 It’s interesting that the most oft-given command in Scripture is to not be afraid. In fact, some have suggested that there are as many as 366 verses that counsel God’s people to fear not, one for each day of the year (even leap year). The frequency with which we’re told to forsake fear makes it clear that it’s a condition common to being human. We all have things that can keep us enslaved to anxiety, terror, and an endless list of “what ifs” if we let them. Unfortunately, such worries are exponentially amplified in climates like the one we’re currently in with the outbreak of the coronavirus.
