Take Authority Over It

“Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.”

– Matthew 10:1

I’m excited because I’ve been sharing that faith is a seed of the Word of God that needs to be planted in order to bring about change. To encourage you, I’ll share four faith seeds over the next few days! I’ll start with the biggest one — don’t feel guilty about negative emotions. It is important that you identify them by name and take authority over them. We often feel guilty about experiencing envy, lust, ego, or anger. Feeling guilty about them is pointless. Keep in mind that you haven’t done anything yet, right? It is a feeling, a thought, and it is emotional.

In our guilt-driven world, we think that, “I wouldn’t feel these emotions if I were a truly godly person.” My emotions would be flowers, sunshine, happiness, joy, love for everyone, and kindness. Because you are human, your life experience will include negative emotions. We can learn to control our behavior by taking authority over these negative emotions. I think it’s important to view these thoughts as spirits. I don’t mean demons or ghosts; I just think the Bible talks a lot about the spirit of… The Bible speaks about the spirit of despair, fear, deception, anger, and wrath.

Friend, when Jesus healed the blind man, He rebuked the spirit of blindness. Other times, He rebuked the spirit of sickness. Don’t think of lust, gluttony, wrath, pride, or envy as sins but rather as spirits. Don’t allow guilt to creep in, but say, I feel these things, but they aren’t going to affect my life in any way. Ask God for help in taking authority over these negative emotions! Treat those negative emotions like unwelcome guests.

Prayer

I pray to you, Father, that you will help me to take authority over negative emotions in my life.

  1. The answer is rebuke these unwelcomed spirits! Psalm 34:4-8 reads, “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. 5 They looked unto Him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. 6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him, and delivereth them. 8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.” That’s what I do, casting all my fears on Him, and any questions I have, and in my mind receiving answers to my problems and how to deal with them. Thanks be to God, like a Father, and Jesus like a Brother, and the Holy Spirit like a Friend to me in all that I do. Amen.
