Knowledge. Wow, knowledge—don’t get me started! They’re calling this the age of knowledge, and it truly is remarkable. Never before has so much information been so readily available, and for that, I thank God. We have books, podcasts, schools, and online classes at our fingertips. My 15-year-old nephew just graduated from high school early by earning his GED and completed his first semester of college online. Some of you might wonder if that’s good or bad, but one thing is certain: this is the power of knowledge in action.

But here’s the challenge: we haven’t faced this level of severity at any point in human history. Before, it was always hard to get your hands on the book or an article. It was hard to get to the class, possibly because it required traveling to another state. Now, if you need to know how to build a deck, what do you do? You Google it or search on YouTube. Do you need to know how to fix a toilet? You want to know the history of glass? You want to know where that pillar came from? You want to know who, what, where, when, why or how…, you can Google it! Literally, all knowledge is made available through online portals.

My friend, here’s a word of caution—not everything you find is true. It’s much harder to unlearn something than to learn it in the first place. A few years ago, I discovered Sidecar Donuts and convinced myself they were the best in the world. Eating them every day made me happy for a while, until I realized it wasn’t the healthiest habit. Sometimes we have to unlearn things for our own good. Ultimately, knowledge is a tremendous gift, but asking God for discernment is essential. We must seek wisdom alongside information, and remember that all true understanding comes from God.
