When you became a Christian, you received a birthright. As a child of God, born again into His family, you were made an heir of not just a few blessings, but of a double portion. When Jesus went to the cross, He paid the ultimate price so that you could enjoy a heaping helping of the fullness of His Kingdom here on earth. 

In the Old Testament, the word for birthright was bekorah, and in the Hebrew culture, it belonged to the oldest son in each family. This birthright was the most valuable thing a person could have, even more than wealth or worldly treasure, because its holder was entitled to three exclusive privileges. First of all, he was the leader of the family, and as such, he had the right to determine the direction of the entire clan. Secondly, he was the judicial authority for the whole tribe. That meant that if there was an argument between neighbors or family members, he made the judgment call and defined the resolution. Finally, the holder of the bekorah also received a double portion of the inheritance, and that meant a lot if he was part of a well-to-do family! 

Friend, as a beloved child of God, you have the bekorah! It’s not by merit or because you earned it; rather, it was bestowed upon you when you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Like it was in the Old Testament, your birthright should be treasured because it entitles you to a position of leadership and authority in the Kingdom of God. Not only have you received a double-portion of God’s abundant treasure and goodness, but He has delegated to you the power to disperse His blessings to others. What an awesome thought!
