“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” – 1 Corinthians 1:18-19
God comes from heaven to us. He doesn’t wait for us to go to him; he comes to us. Jesus said you did not choose me, I chose you! Jesus said you are my beloved. God is proactive in his love to us — he’s empathetic. Jesus took onto himself the nature of a man: to know our pain, to know our suffering, and to show us empathetic love. The cross shows that God knows our suffering, and our sin dies with it. There was a tremendous amount of courage in the purging of the world and all of its sin and death. That’s Christian love. You want to know Christian love? Just look at the cross.
PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for the cross. Thank you for purging the world or sin and death so we may live in life and freedom.
REFLECTION: How have you seen God’s empathetic love in your life?
