“Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.”
– 2 Corinthians 10:12 (ESV)
![]() Because our lives are hidden with God in Christ, we’ve been granted protection from and authority over the enemy. In fact, as believers, we walk around in a cushion of grace that makes us impervious to the dominion or possession of darkness. Therefore, the way the devil tries to take us down is through the power of deception. By gaining a foothold in our thoughts, he causes us to turn against ourselves and keeps us paralyzed in fear. In fact, one of the most sinister and common ways in which he does this is through the curse of comparison. Especially in the age of social media, where people are always putting their best foot forward, it’s easy to behold the successes of others and feel defeated before we “get out of the gate.” However, we live in a world of smoke and mirrors where what we see is rarely a reflection of reality. Truth be told, everyone has struggles and insecurities, and no one really has it all together, even if it looks like they do. This is why, as Christians, we’re blessed to have God’s Word as our final authority rather than our own reasoning. When we take to heart the promises our Lord speaks over us, His power pulls down every stronghold Satan establishes in our mind. When the enemy says we can’t, He says we can, and He gives us overcoming supernatural strength to prove it! My friend, stop comparing yourself to other people and start walking in the sufficiency of your Savior. Your call is unique, and He has uniquely equipped you to carry it out. As you fix your gaze on Jesus and rely on His sustaining grace for help, you will be able to do exceedingly, abundantly more than you can even ask for, think, or imagine. Keep looking ahead, and avoid turning to the right or left when someone appears smarter, more successful, or better qualified. Your race is yours to run, and you are perfectly fashioned to finish it well. Be filled every day with the Holy Spirit, and don’t let the devil cut in and upset your stride! |
Prayer
Jesus, keep my heart free from the curse of comparison that steals my joy and derails my course. I know my strength is in you alone.
