Here’s a clue about difficult, frightening, or fearful situations in your life: Although scary, often the situations that plague us and feel like a blister on our hearts; that scary stuff is clarity. It’s a signpost because fear gives you clarity about where you’re supposed to go. If you’re tossing and turning every night about something, it’s probably a clue that that’s where God wants you to be, or to go, or an indication of something He wants you to do. I’m not afraid of getting into a rocket ship and walking on the moon. That doesn’t keep me up at night. I’m not rolling over, worried about that. But you know who probably was? Every astronaut who wanted to explore the world of space.

Friend, the greatest risk in life is not taking any risk at all! I was afraid of getting engaged at the young age of 21, starting a church, having children, and writing a book. Why? Because these were things I was supposed to accomplish at that time. These fears kept me up at night. But I’ve come to realize that if something is keeping you up at night, it often means it’s important to you and a crucial part of your life. It probably means that’s where God is directing you to go.
