Yesterday, we looked at how Solomon sought the Lord first when he was faced with overwhelming challenges and obstacles. Today, I want to look at God’s response. 

It’s interesting that Solomon gave 1,000 choice offerings to the Lord at Gibeon and then went back to his tent. The Bible doesn’t tell us what else happened at that special place or if anything transpired in between, but one thing is certain — the King’s reverence got God’s attention. In the middle of the night, He appeared to the novice ruler in a dream and offered to give him whatever he wanted. I don’t know about you, but if the Almighty asked me this question, I can think of a lot of things I might say. I would ask for healing for my son, for more kids in my church, and for lots of Eagle donors for Hour of Power. Likewise, you might imagine that Solomon would ask the Lord for deliverance from his enemies, for more wealth, honor, or a long life. However, instead of requesting any of these things, He sat up in his bed, looked at the Lord and said, “Give me wisdom and knowledge so that I can lead your people.” Wow! 

Friend, like Solomon, my encouragement to you is to seek the Lord for wisdom above all else. Cultivate a posture which understands that every good thing in life flows from a heart full of His knowledge and discernment. Gifts are of very little worth without the spiritual insight needed to steward and manage them well, so as you wrap up 2019, take some time to pray and ask for eyes to see every circumstance through the lens of His wisdom.
