The Impact of Your Service

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

– James 1:27

Philosophies are the foundations of conduct, thought, and knowledge. As individuals, we have many philosophies that we bundle together to create our personal philosophy. Here’s something I want you to add to your collection of philosophies that can change your life forever. It seems so simple, but you’ll be tempted to reject it the second I share it. The transformational message is that your achievement in life is equal to the impact of your service.

You may be thinking service isn’t a big deal, I can just serve more. No, no, no, your accomplishments in life are equal to the impact of your service. In the early church, we saw this immediately at work. The early church sprouts up amid the Roman Empire. During its 800-year reign, it conquered most of Europe, North Africa, and large parts of the Middle East. Rome was powerful but all about glory. The emphasis was on trophies and grand achievements, as well as the rich and famous. There was little compassion shown to orphans, sick people, or widows under the Roman Empire. Old people weren’t of interest  unless they were wealthy.

Friend, the church had a new philosophy as it arose: Your value is not determined by your glory; it is determined by being a child of God. As a result, the early church said, give us your children and your poor people. We will take care of your elderly and sick people. If your slaves and abandoned people are no longer helpful to you, we will take them. God’s children can adopt this impact of service today by honoring what would be considered the least of these.

Father, give me the ability to serve the fatherless, the widow, and the abandoned with impact.

What can you do to honor and serve those who feel abandoned?

  1. Bobby that’s not what my bible says in James 1:27, it actually reads, Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. This is from the World Bible Publishers, Inc. The Holy Bible printed in the United States of America in 1989 King James version. And from the same Bible from the book of Revelation chapter 22 verses 18 and 19 says, For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy. God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. So on my part, I will keep reading from my version instead of any new or replacement version of the Bible!
