“The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.”
– Revelation 3:5
![]() My good friend Rich Mouw, a former president of Fuller Seminary, shared in a sermon his unusual way of reading a novel. When he begins to get worried about the protagonist or the situation, he goes to the book’s last page and reads it. His reasoning is he wants to know in advance the good outcome. He would say, “Oh good, they got together, or whew, he lived.” When he learns what the ending is, he goes back to whatever chapter he’s on, and reads his book in a more relaxed posture. What he shared in his sermon is this: I have a book about your life. I’ve read the last page of your life. I don’t know everything that’s in between, but I can tell you that the last page of your story is good! Maybe today, you are in a pickle, you are in a difficult position, or have a problem to which no easy answer can be found. You can count on what the good book, the Bible, says about your life. You can trust in the faithfulness of God in Christ Jesus. Be assured that the Holy Spirit is doing a good work in your life! Friend, will you believe this today? Can we believe this about our own lives? That God’s word is true for us, and that the last page of your story is going to be amazing and good? I’m believing and sharing this good news with you! Let’s stir up our faith and trust that God is carrying us through. |
Prayer
Father, I ask you to stir up my faith that you are carrying me through.
Reflection
Have you acknowledged that your story is amazing? Do you know God is faithful?
