“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”
– John 8:12
![]() It’s always interesting to observe the changing of the seasons. Of course, being from Southern California, we don’t experience it as dramatically as some places; however, our days get shorter and the nights get colder. Since I lived in Oklahoma for a few years of my life, you might think I’d be used to it, but I like sunshine and the beach, so when it gets dark early and I have to stay inside, it’s an adjustment for me. Yet herein lies one of the things I love most about Christmas. To me, the ability to illuminate the night with lights on my house and on my tree makes the dreariness of winter more tolerable. It’s also comforting to see roof after roof lined with shining bulbs that break through the black of dark. As I make a connection between this physical reality and what Jesus has done in my life and in the world, I become even more grateful. Friend, the great light of the world has dawned in your heart! No matter how dark things look or how despondent you feel, His radiance can break through the black. In fact, it already has. Jesus has crushed the power of sin and shame in your life so you can walk in His brightness, grace, and illuminating love. Lean into His hope today and allow Him to meet you with the wonder of His presence. Though the world is dark around you, His light shines and brings your heart the thrill of His hope! Go forth today and share it with everyone you encounter. |
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for shining your love in my heart, even when things look dark.
