The More Invisible, The More it Counts

“So that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

– Matthew 6:4

Yesterday we focused on the importance of the little things and the many small choices we must make in order to have a big life. What the Bible seems to indicate is that these little decisions we think don’t matter actually matter a lot. In fact, Jesus’ core teachings suggest that the more invisible something is, the greater its importance. The more unseen something is, the more it counts. In general, the less applause we get, the less we post on social media about it, the fewer people know about it, the fewer comments we hear, the more valuable it is.

Here’s a classic question: “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” I’d like to add, “Does anyone see it? Does it matter? Did it happen?” The answer is, “Yes!” The event occurred because God witnessed it. The Bible says that not just trees, but even one little hair from your head is counted by God. He sees and loves even a tiny sparrow that falls from the sky. Part of believing in the Gospel and walking in Christ is understanding that even though no one sees or probably will never see some of your actions, there are hidden rewards in doing the little things no matter what. A bigger you is the reward!

Friend, the desire to become a better person is something we all strive for. We need to move towards a bigger life, and a bigger soul. Taking care of the little things that nobody can see is the best thing you can do. A bigger life is the reward and this is what the Bible teaches us.

Prayer

Father, show me how to be content knowing you see my actions.

Reflection

When you take action, how do you do it in an unseen way?
