The New Thing is a Great Thing

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

– Isaiah 43:18-19

In the above Scripture, God is doing a new thing! He’s doing a new thing in your life and my life right now. The new thing God is doing in our lives often feels painful, weird or may even feel like we’re losing everything. I want you to trust at this moment that the new thing God is doing in your life is actually good. God is preparing you for a season of real victory and abundance!

Maybe God is doing what feels uncomfortable in your life right now, but my prayer is for you to comprehend this: When God does a new thing in your life, in the short term it may appear like something negative is happening. I want you to believe and have faith in your heart that the new thing is great for the long term. It’s not just great, it’s amazing!

The truth is, human beings in general don’t like change, especially when it’s something that interrupts our normal experiences and habits. So often, we get used to something that’s bad for us, but at the same time, feels safe. We want to run back to that old relationship, job, or safe place even though it’s bad for us. The essayist Fyodor Dostoyevsky said, “a human being is someone who can get used to anything.” But let’s prepare our hearts to receive the new great thing that God has in store for us. It might challenge you or it might be an adventure, but it’s going to be wonderful!

God help me see the new things you are doing in my life. I trust that these new things will bring something wonderful into my life.
