The Perspective of a King

“And giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.”

– Colossians 1:12,13

I love the story about the pro-golfer who spent a weekend with a Saudi prince. Apparently the prince really loved watching this guy compete and wanted more than anything to play a few rounds of golf with him, so he sent his private jet to pick him up and flew him to the Emirates. When he arrived, the two hit it off. Although they were from different cultures, backgrounds, and religions, they were immediately at ease with each other. After spending a few days together, when it came time for his newfound friend to leave, the prince told the golfer that he wanted to send him a gift to show his appreciation. Already overwhelmed by his generosity, he told his friend that he didn’t need to do anything else for him, but when the prince insisted, he said, “Okay, just give me a golf club or something.” As he flew home, he reflected on the great time he had and wondered what kind of club the prince would send him. When he arrived back in the states, he settled in, and it was a few weeks before he heard a knock on his door. Upon opening it, a messenger handed him a package from the prince, but it was much smaller than what he was expecting. In fact, instead of being a large box, it was simply an envelope. When he unsealed it, to his shock, he found the deed to a golf club, but not the kind that you swing. Instead, he was now the proud owner of a luxury country club — talk about a difference in interpretation! Whether this story is true or just folklore, I don’t know, but I am certain that it teaches us a powerful lesson about the heart of our Lord.

My friend, kings and princes see things differently than most people. While your Savior is your Friend and Father, He is also the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. In this time of upheaval, I encourage you to remember that He owns the cattle on a thousand hills and that there is nothing lost that He cannot restore… with more. All the resources of Heaven and earth are at His command and He willingly shares them with you because you are His heir. The King of the Universe has chosen you, called you His child, and handed you the deed to a Kingdom so vast that your mind can’t conceive of all the blessings that await you there.

Prayer

Jesus, thank you for loving me as a father and blessing me as a king. I receive the fullness of your Kingdom in my life today.

Reflection

How does seeing Jesus as your King elevate your perspective and heighten your expectations?
