The Power in the Pressure

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”

– 2 Corinthians 4:7

During seasons of pressure, pain, difficulty, and tragedy that we never thought we’d walk through, Jesus assures us that His power will meet us there. The Bible says,”… we have this treasure in “jars of clay…” — but I prefer the literal translation, which is “earthen vessels.” While clay jars conjure up images of beautiful and fragile works of art, earthen vessels are pots made of clay — and wet clay remains moldable and pliable in the Potter’s hands. When this clay is under stress, the Lord is able “…to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”

Right now, I believe you are capable of more than you can fathom, and when you’re under stress, your potential shows up in a big way. As promised in 2 Corinthians 4, despite being hard-pressed on every side, you are not crushed. You may be perplexed — which means totally confused and unable to make sense of anything — but you are not despairing. You aren’t giving up and you’re not quitting. People can mock you, betray you, and lie about you, but you are not abandoned. You are struck down, but not destroyed. God’s all-surpassing power is there to sustain and undergird you!

Friend, pressure provides a way for you to grow! My prayer is that you’ll keep moving forward, even when you encounter a spirit of resistance that tries to keep you from getting to your God-ordained destination. Walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, keep moving forward, and let His strength overcome every obstacle and transform you into the person He’s called you to be!

Prayer

Father, help me to grow when I am under pressure and to embrace obstacles as opportunities.
