“Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

– Ephesians 5:18-20

The Holy Spirit is available to every believer. When you were baptized, when you confessed Jesus as the Lord of your life, He gave you a pilot light. It’s a little light and it doesn’t give off much warmth at first, but He also gave you gas (fuel), and that gas is the Spirit of God. Then He’s given you a gas valve. So it’s like this: you have a pilot light, you have gas available, and you have that little gas knob. Turn it on, baby, turn it on! Have some joy, life, and spirit so that you’re ready for the things of God. Be full of courage, with eyes to see and ears to hear what the Spirit wants to do.

May our churches never be tombs and sepulchers of God, full of academics and rights and statutes, but not of the Holy Spirit. Let’s be a people who are always ready for the great things He wants to do in and through us!

Prayer

God, fill me with your Holy Spirit and make me come alive on the inside so that I am ready to hear and respond to your voice.

Reflection

Is your gas valve turned on? Are you seeking more of the Holy Spirit’s fire?
