“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

– Ephesians 6:12

Although it’s something that can be difficult to admit, the reality is that much of life is a fight. Interestingly, the term Israel means “to struggle with God,” and if this is how the Lord defined the existence of His people from the beginning of time, it remains just as true today. While it might be more accurate to say that we battle against sin (which places our conscience in conflict with our Creator), no matter how we define it, knowing that we’re in a spiritual conflict is an important part of our Christian experience. As much as we want to believe that we reside on a planet full of goodwill, to do so is a deception. In order to inherit abundant life, we must shift our paradigm and readily admit that there’s a war raging around us. Though heavenly armies are invisible to our physical eyes, they are real, and as believers, we are constantly being assaulted by demons and protected by angels. Thus, in order to be postured for victory, we need to acknowledge the fight and pray into it. While this won’t involve engaging in physical contact, it will require the Holy Spirit’s power of discernment and a heart full of repentance and faith. As we surrender ourselves and let the Lord lead, we’ll inherit the authority that sets us — and others — free from the tormenting power of Satan’s strongholds.

My friend, you are engaged in a fight, and every day for the rest of your life, the battle for your heart will be raging. Though your soul is securely seated in the heavens if Jesus is your Lord, the devil wants to bring you down, so he will continually assault your mind and attack your spirit. Thankfully, you are victorious by the blood of Christ, and His power is alive in you to help you stand fast. You are protected by God’s celestial soldiers who contend with darkness to keep you safe, and as you call upon the triumphant power of your Savior, He will swiftly deliver you from all harm and then use you to deliver others!

Prayer

Jesus, give me eyes to see the spiritual battle raging around me.
