“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
– 1 Peter 1:18,19
![]() We’ve learned recently that Jesus sent ten lepers on a journey to Jerusalem in order to receive their healing. He instructed them to go and show themselves to the priest, and the Bible says that they were cleansed as they went. But what most of us don’t know is what happened to them once they got there. In order for a person suffering with leprosy to be admitted back into society, there was a ritual ceremony that took place. After the priest examined and declared them clean, he instructed them to take a live dove and dip it in blood and living water. Then, when the bird was soaked and stained, it was let go and set free. For the leper being healed, this feathered friend taking flight was to be a constant reminder of the mercy and grace shown to them by God. Of course, for those of us who’ve placed our trust in Jesus Christ, the parallels are poignantly evident. Because our Savior shed His blood to wash us clean and gave us His Spirit’s Water to make us new, we can soar in complete forgiveness and healing. No matter how encumbered we once were, our sin and shame have been redeemed, and we’ve been released to fly in freedom! My friend, you’ve been cleansed by the blood of the Lamb without blemish or defect! This means you can rise on the currents of Christ’s mercy and live with the knowledge that nothing on earth has the power to weigh you down. You’ve been set free to soar in divine liberty, so whenever the devil tries to encumber you with guilt or baggage, you can remind him of the price your Savior paid to redeem you. Jesus’ suffering gives you wings, and His resurrection power provides an endless supply of Living Water to refresh your soul so you can bless and minister to others! |
Prayer
Jesus, help me to more fully understand the measure of the freedom I have in you.
Reflection
How can you soar in the fullness of forgiveness, mercy, and healing today?
