“Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”
-Hebrews 12:14

One of my mentors, the late Christian philosopher Dallas Willard, once shared that when the prophet Daniel, in his old age, was thrust into the lion’s den, he carried heaven with him in his very body.

And, as he went into that lion’s den, with him went all the Shekinah glory of God, all of the peace and power and spirit of God in his body. He had become so spiritually dense and rich that when he entered that physical space, he turned starving lions into sleeping kitty cats. He brought with him into that hole a tremendous sense of peace and rest.

And that’s what you are. You have that right now. You have that in your body. You have the power to carry into the violence and weirdness and brokenness of our world, a sense of peace and life. You do that. You may not even know it, yet you overflow with God’s peace and life everywhere you go. You’re doing it now and you’re going to do it more. Isn’t that exciting?

Prayer: Dear Lord, may the peace that you bring to my heart be passed through me to all I meet. Amen.

Reflection: How have you calmed an anxious person with the peace of God that you experience?
