Turning Over the Tables of Your Heart

“In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!”

– John 2:14-16

God wants to overturn the tables in your heart. He wants to come into your body, soul and mind to kick and knock over the things that keep you stuck. As you invite Him to get violent with your mess and cleanse you from within, healing begins to occur.  Even though it hurts, stretches and pulls, you can release pain, anguish, doubt and fear and give it to Him. You can let go of the stuff that makes you angry or frustrated and release the past, present and future to His keeping. With open hands, you can pray, “Holy Spirit, begin to heal me as Jesus did in the temple. Cleanse this temple, Father, and make me new from within.”

Prayer

God, thank you for turning over the tables in my heart, for healing me and giving me a fresh start.

  1. During the cleansing of the temple, Jesus also symbolically rescued the animals from the ritual sacrifice, a practice made obsolete after His death and resurrection.

  2. The tables that GOD is turning all of the working choosing the church activities to be involved with this year is keeping myself in my heart & mind & soul for that letting the Holy Spirit guiding myself on each decision that I make on a daily basis! AMEN! Stephanie R. Carter
