And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

1 John 4:16

There are two distinct paths you can follow in life: one led by fear and another led by love. Today’s scripture, one of my favorites, comes from 1 John 4:14–16, “And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”

Every day, we stand at a crossroads between the path of fear and the path of love. This choice shapes not only our actions but also the people we become. Here’s what a life led by fear looks like: a constant, restless search for safety and security; ongoing worry about what tomorrow or the coming week will bring; pushing people away; feeling offended easily; and gradually shrinking from opportunities. In a life led by fear, you find yourself saying no—or saying nothing at all—more and more often.

My friend, in contrast, a life led by love is marked by openness, trust, and compassion. It welcomes connection and offers forgiveness freely. When you lead with love, you approach challenges with confidence instead of fear. A love-led life is generous—with time, encouragement, and presence. You find yourself saying yes to opportunities to serve, and you become a source of God’s light and support for others. Ultimately, living by love means allowing God’s love to flow through you, giving you the confidence to face whatever comes your way.

Prayer

Father, when I find myself at the crossroads between fear and love, guide me to always choose the path of love.
