“May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”
-Ruth 2:12
In the same way that God really cares about the little bad things that we do, God cares about the little good things we do, and that’s good news!
Some of us, we give like the widow with her mite – we give a little bit here and there. It seems like it’s not anything that could possibly make a difference. Sometimes it’s not money – we volunteer and nobody notices. We help our kids or our sick mom and nobody cares. Maybe your mom has Alzheimer’s, dementia, or some kind of health problem and you have no family members left, and nobody seems to be concerned. You do these little things and you give these little things that you think nobody sees.
God sees those things and he will reward you. It is good news to know that the story of the widow’s mite is true. That if those of you who have given secretly and consistently, those of you who have given of your time, who have given of your body, who have given of your life, and you think nobody notices – God notices and he cares and he will bless you for that, and that is very, very good news.
Prayer: Dear Lord, though I’d like to be recognized by others for the little things I do, just knowing that you care and you see makes all the difference. Thank you for loving me all the time, especially when I feel otherwise unseen or under-appreciated. Amen.
Reflection: What little thing(s) do you do that others don’t notice?
