Vulnerability with the Master

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”

– 2 Corinthians 4:7

Yesterday, we talked about how becoming Spiritually agile by taking on some challenges that stretch us enables us to become anti-fragile and better able to resist the devil in our daily lives. Today, I want to go over a couple more things we can do as we seek to become resilient and less fragile in our walk with God.

First of all, and this is hard for religious people, be vulnerable and humble. Stop pretending that you’re perfect; that’s not helping anybody. You don’t have to be vulnerable around everybody, but you should have at least a few people in your life who know you well and are familiar with your good parts and bad parts. Be honest about the things you’re wrestling with, and as you do, you will become strong. If you want to be weak, try to be strong and tough, and if you want to be strong, be transparent, humble, and broken. The light of Jesus shines brightest and most beautifully through the cracks, so don’t be ashamed of them.

Finally, and most importantly, spend time with the Master. If you are serious about conquering worry and becoming truly anti-fragile, you have to be a disciple, or a student, who is disciplined and committed to knowing Jesus above all else. As you spend time with Him by praying, thinking, reading, and studying His truth, you will cultivate His resilience and agility. So do it! Make knowing Him the most important part of your day…more important than your errands, more important than going to the gym, and more important than social media. Prayer and connection with God are your oxygen; you need them to stay Spiritually alive. Plus, the more of Jesus you take in, the more of Him you want in your life, because His presence produces good fruit!

Friend, you’re stronger than you think you are! Trouble is good for you and the cure to worry is understanding that God has designed you as an eternal being made to come back stronger in the face of persecution and trouble. You were created to be anti-fragile and you will become that even more so when you are a vulnerable disciple who makes spending time with Jesus your top priority! Isn’t that great news?

Prayer

Thank you, Jesus, for loving me in the midst of my struggles. I trust you to make me strong in my weakness as I spend time in your presence.

Reflection

How has spending time with Jesus made you anti-fragile?
