“You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.”
-1 Thessalonians 5:5-6

Sometimes being a light of the world is like being a light in a dark room. It’s like going into your brother or sister’s bedroom when they’re sleeping in and pulling up the shade. Initially, blinding light fills the room, and your sibling blurts out, “What?!”

Sometimes when you pull the shades open in a dark room, people get angry, people don’t like it, people feel uncomfortable. But sometimes it’s exactly what you have to do to wake up the people you love.

You have to let the light shine. Do not hide it under a bushel.

Prayer: Dear Lord, when people I love hide from the light of your love, help me to be the one to shine your light into the darkest corners of their greatest need. Amen.

Reflection: How have you helped a family member go through a tough life situation?
