In the famous story, Solomon is presented with the throne of his father, King David. God appears before him in all His glory and says to Solomon, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” Many people are familiar with this moment, but often they misinterpret Solomon’s request. While it’s commonly believed that he asked for wisdom, that answer is only partially correct. In reality, he asked for both wisdom and knowledge.

Wisdom and knowledge are not the same. Wisdom is the result of practicing principles and often comes with age and experience. In contrast, knowledge is acquired through learning, reading, and similar activities. In the Scripture, God says to Solomon: “Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions, or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people whom I have made you king, therefore, wisdom and knowledge will be given to you. Additionally, I will grant you wealth, possessions, and honor, such as no king before you has ever had and no king after you will ever have.”

Friend, what does this say about words that hold wisdom and knowledge? These words have the power to transform a person and yield new results. I see this truth reflected in the people I pastor, my friends, and my colleagues. Your philosophy, your mindset, and your words shape your future. It arises from the person whom God has blessed you to become. Becoming a new person stems from embracing new ideas and adopting a new philosophy!
