“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” -John 8:12
According to Jesus, the mode of evangelism for believers, more than anything else, is hospitality. Sharing your faith with your neighbors is like inviting people into your home, sitting them down, and asking them if there’s anything you can bring them. You start with the food you have. Maybe you pull out your china. Maybe you go into your wine cellar or you pull out some nice meat and you begin to cook. Then, you present to your guests these treasures.
That’s what evangelism for Christians is supposed to be. It’s not supposed to be abrasive, it’s not supposed to be offensive, and it’s not supposed to be shoved down somebody’s throat. It’s supposed to be inviting someone into your spiritual home to partake in the treasures that you have. You say, “Look, I don’t have it all, but here’s what I do have. Do you want some?”
PRAYER: Dear Lord, may I be inspired to show hospitality to all in need of your light in their lives. Show me the way. Amen.
REFLECTION: How do you share in Christian love with others?
