What is Heavenly Treasure?

“My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

– Colossians 2:2,3

Yesterday, we talked about heavenly treasure being accessible now. I want to share with you today what these spiritual resources might look like and how they can be cultivated. Perhaps the greatest heavenly treasure is wisdom. Having the gift of wisdom leads to an abundant life that far exceeds anything that can be attained by the currency of this world.

Beyond wisdom, other spiritual riches include integrity, character, faith, grace, peace, generosity, kindness and gentleness; all of these are intangible virtues that can never be taken from you. When you see your priority as storing up these kinds of riches, your actions and attitudes will come into alignment, and your focus will change from what you have to who you are becoming. This is why it’s super-important to take care of yourself, spend time with the Lord, and grow as a person.

Friend, when you invest in yourself in a way that cultivates character, faith, and knowledge, it will reap a harvest for the rest of your life. You don’t need to feel guilty about taking a break or saying no, because the only way for heavenly treasure to abound is for you to be rested and renewed. You are a disciple of Jesus, and it’s not right for you to be exhausted all the time; instead, you should be recharging your battery so you can become all that God has called you to be — a literal trove of heavenly treasures!

Prayer

Help me, Jesus, to slow down and take a break from the fast pace of life so I can store up and cultivate the treasures of your Kingdom.
