“My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
– Colossians 2:2,3
![]() Yesterday, we talked about heavenly treasure being accessible today — not just after we die. As we continue our discussion, I want to share with you what such spiritual resources might look like in our lives and how they can be cultivated. Probably the greatest heavenly treasure is wisdom. Whether it’s knowledge of the Scriptures, an education, or experience, having the gift of wisdom leads to an abundant life that far exceeds anything that can be attained by the currency of this world (perhaps this is why King Solomon wrote an entire book about its virtues). Beyond wisdom, other spiritual riches include integrity, faith, grace, peace, generosity, kindness and gentleness; these are all intangible qualities that can never be taken from you. When you see your priority as storing up such eternal treasures, your actions and attitudes come into alignment, and your focus changes from what you have to who you are becoming. This is why it’s super-important to take care of yourself and spend time developing your character. It’s not selfish to devote yourself to the things of God and to grow as a person; in fact, it’s vital! Friend, when you invest in yourself in a way that cultivates character, faith, and knowledge, it will reap a harvest for the rest of your life. You don’t need to feel guilty about taking a break or saying no to yet another activity, because the only way for heavenly treasure to abound is for you to be rested and renewed. You are a disciple of Jesus, and it’s not right for you to be exhausted all the time; instead, you should be recharging your battery so you can become all that God has called you to be — a literal trove of eternal treasures! |
Prayer
Help me, Jesus, to slow down and take a break from the fast pace of life so I can cultivate the treasures of your Kingdom.
Reflection
Which heavenly treasures are you storing up in your life? Are there less important activities might you need to give up so you can find time to invest in cultivating more of what is eternal and imperishable?
