Over the past several days, I’ve been sharing how God encourages us to ask boldly for what we need. It’s not just about asking, but about doing so with shameless audacity. A powerful example of this is found in Luke 11: “Then Jesus said to them, ‘Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread. A friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer them.’” In Middle Eastern culture, hospitality is a deeply rooted religious obligation; welcoming a guest is essential. Yet, in this story, the host has no bread to offer.

Imagine the neighbor, already in bed, replies, Don’t bother me; my family and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything. But Jesus explains: Even though he didn’t want to get up and give the bread, yet because of friendship and his shameless audacity, he got up and gave him as much as was needed. Notice, he doesn’t just give a little—Scripture says he gave whatever was needed.

This, my friend, is shameless audacity. In the modern West, we often shy away from such boldness. We value propriety—using the right words and behaviors. But children don’t ask with propriety. My son Cohen wakes me up in the middle of the night—“Dad, dad, dad, dad…what? Dad, dad, daddy, daddy.” He keeps asking until I get up! In the same way, God encourages us to keep coming to Him. He is always willing and never limited in His ability to provide!
