“So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’ ”
– Hebrews 13:6
Here’s what fear does: it ruins, it rots, it erodes. Fear eats away at you—literally and figuratively. In English, we have a saying: “What’s eating you?” It means, what are you worrying about? To be eaten by worry or fear is to feel consumed, strangled, withered, and faded. Fear can make you feel as though you are being swallowed whole, leaving you diminished and powerless. Fear also isolates you by building invisible walls that keep you from reaching out to others or accepting love and support. My friend, this is why faith is so vital—and why fear is so destructive. Fear has no place within you. We don’t want to be afraid of anything. Faith is the anticipation that something good is going to happen, while fear is the expectation that something bad is on the way. When you choose faith, you trust that God, who is always good, will do good for you. With every step of faith you take, you weaken the grip of fear and move closer to the life you are meant to live. |
Prayer
Father, help me grow faith in my heart—stronger than fear, steadier than doubt.
Reflection
In your weakest moments, what would it look like to choose trust over worry and courage over hesitation?
