“Their hearts are secure, and they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.”
-Psalm 112:8
We all need to share Jesus’ heart for money, thinking not how it’s going to help us buy and hoard stuff to make us feel safe, instead, thinking of money as something that can change people’s lives.
There are passages where God says, “Test me in this.” If we give our tithes and offerings, he’ll open up the windows of heaven and pour out such a blessing that we cannot contain it. There is the passage in the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus encourages us not to worry about our clothes or what we will eat. He says to seek first the kingdom of God and everything else will follow.
If we seek first the kingdom of God with our money, God is going to bless us. If we invest in God’s stuff, God is going to invest in our stuff because we have good hearts. It’s a kingdom principle. It really is. It’s something I believe in. Acting in faith with our money grows us spiritually into people who dream each day about being generous.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I don’t want to worry about my clothes, my possessions, or the things I think I need. Help me to live more simply so that I have more to give away. Amen.
Reflection: How might you live more generously?
