“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” -John 13:34

One way, and I believe the best way, to share your faith is to do works of love. Anyone can do this. More than anything, love is the thing that identifies Christians as Christians. It is the one most indispensable thing about our faith.

Anyone who does not have love and claims to be a Christian is not a Christian. Love is the thing that makes us most like God, and most like Jesus. That means that every single day you will have an opportunity to be late to something in order to do an act of love for someone. Did you catch that? Every day you will have the opportunity to have your life interrupted by God calling you to do a work of love for someone else.

This can be as little as paying for the person behind you when you’re in line at In-n-Out. If you mentor someone, volunteer for the poor, work with battered women, love those that are hard to love, people will notice that. You don’t do it because you want people to notice it, but people will notice it, and that will cause their hearts to soften and warm to the idea of a loving God. So, do works of love.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I will do more works of love for those around me. May those loving gestures bring others into a relationship with you. Amen.

REFLECTION: How might you do more works of love for others?
