“Go now, write it on a tablet for them, inscribe it on a scroll, that for the days to come it may be an everlasting witness.”

– Isaiah 30:8

Would you mind answering a question for me? What kind of person do you want to be? Who do you want to become? The answer to this question will change your life forever, especially if you write it down. I was recently invited to a 90th birthday party for American Christian academic, pastor, and writer Elmer Towns. He is one of the co-founders of Liberty University, the largest Christian university in America. His life has been filled with amazing things, including writing 235 books. During his celebration, he was interviewed and asked this question: If you could give one piece of life coaching advice, what would it be?

He sat back and crossed his arms for a moment, and then said, “I’ve got it, there’s only one word — write.” What an interesting response. It is important to write down your dreams and visions. Make a list of your God-given goals. Write down your fashion ideas if you have them. Make a note if you have an idea for a book or a story, and don’t forget to write down your amazing dad jokes! Trust me, you’ll forget these important thoughts if you don’t write them down.

Friend, as you write, you gain a clearer vision of what you want and who you want to be. In life, you will be on a better track if you can answer that question without even thinking. Yet, becoming that person comes with a price. The price is in the thoughts you think and the disciplines you practice every day. It’s the books you read and the prayers you pray to God. Don’t forget the importance of who you surround yourself with. It is these things that form the philosophy, the attitude, and the skills that will determine your future.

Father, help me to gain a clearer vision of my future as I write down my goals and dreams.

Have you written down your dreams, visions, and God-given goals?

  1. I think this is an on going question that you keep bring up, as I have read in your daily devotionals at least a dozen times or more. I have considered to follow your advice on writing a book about my life, I think it would be very much related to the times we are all facing today. Especially my personal experiences because technically I should not be here, when I became a teenager, that grandmother told me after a dream that I had when I was growing up, still in Germany at the time, it was about an old abandoned building? She said, that’s the place my mother and father maid arrangements to have me aborted 1958 while she was about a few months pregnant. She was sixteen and he was twenty or twenty-one as an air-cadet just starting out in the German Air Force. Sounds like trouble, yet I think by the Grace of God made it possible because my mother was a Lutheran that I was born and here today! May God bless you Bobby and your family and everyone involved in the hour of power for your weekly services, I’ll keep watching thanks be to God The Father, and The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Amen.

  2. Bobby, I have written my memoir ” The Best Known Nobody ” and would like to send an e copy for your reading. Let me know if you would be interested in receiving it. God bless all writers.
