“Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”

– Romans 8:5,6

Dallas Willard, an American philosopher and Christian scholar, once made the assertion that a human being is first and foremost a mind. What do you think about that? A person has a mind that influences a will and from that will, decisions are made that forge the course and trajectory of their life. This is why there is so much power in changing the way we think, both individually and as a society. In order for real change to be affected in churches, schools, and ultimately the world as a whole, minds must be transformed.

This is why it’s extremely important that we cultivate positive thoughts about God. So much of how we perceive and experience life has to do with what and how we think about the One who created us. While some of us don’t believe He exists, others think that He’s indifferent or disinterested (the technical term for this would be deist). Some of us think that He is involved, but that He’s mad at us or punishing us for some sinful thing we did or that our parents did. However, I am here to tell you today that all of those perceptions about Him are wrong!

Friend, I challenge you to change your thinking when it comes to the reality of God’s posture towards you. God isn’t like any of the cruel, indifferent or punishing images you may have internalized. The truth is that He loves you and He is pleased with you, just as He is with his beloved son, Jesus. When you understand the power and unshakability of His love, your whole world will change and you will experience a freedom the likes of which you have never known. From a solid base of love, you will be empowered to do the supernatural and your faith will give your life impact beyond anything you could have imagined. Change the way you think about God and the world around you will change as a result! Isn’t that great news?

Prayer

God, thank you for loving me the same way you love your son, Jesus. I receive the fullness of your grace and unconditional acceptance today, by the power of His life given for me on the cross.
